End Litter

We’re Asking Georgians to #reconsiderlitter.

At the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, we aim to ultimately end litter in Georgia. It is a huge blight on our landscape, and costly to clean up. Litter impacts our quality of life, destroying our state’s natural beauty, harming or killing wildlife, and diminishing water quality. It also hinders economic development—property values decrease in littered neighborhoods, whereas clean communities attract families and businesses.

We’re leading a united effort across the state to educate people about the problem, enforce litter laws, and eradicate blight. In 2023, our network of affiliates and volunteers collected over 1.25 million pounds of litter and debris, and we’ll soon celebrate two years of our statewide public service campaign. Our customizable slogan, “Consider _______ before you litter”, and hashtag, #reconsiderlitter, ask the public to contemplate the negative effects of litter on our economy, health, and environment, as well as join the fight to reverse them.

Resources

To support local enforcement of Georgia's Comprehensive Litter Prevention and Abatement Act, we also offer grants for local affiliate communities to fund workshops for law enforcement officers, code enforcement officers, and other interested parties. Scott Carroll with 423 Law Enforcement leads the training, which is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of how to work with the court system and other officials to eradicate littering and illegal dumping in their communities.
